NBA Players are continuing to jump ship. Now, J.R. Smith, is headed overseas to play. The Denver Nuggets guard signed a contract to play in China this season.
Smith’s agent, Leon Rose, confirmed Smith signed a one-year deal with Zhejiang.
He is the second Nugget player to do so. The seven-year pro won’t be able to return to play in the NBA if there is a 2011-12 season as the Chinese Basketball Association has told players they will not be able to opt out of their deals.
Rose added: “J.R. really wants to play basketball this season.”
Smith averaged 12.3 points and 2.2 assists as the Nuggets’ sixth man last season. He is the second Nuggets player to head to China. Last month, Smith’s teammate, Wilson Chandler, also signed to play in the Chinese league.
