For the first time since 2008 the Buffalo Bills have started 2-0. The last time the team started this hot – beating the Seahawks, Jaguars, Raiders and Rams – they ended incredible cold. In 2008, the teams started 4-0 and ended the season 7-9.
This season has an eerie resemblance to the 2008 season. In both ’08 and this season the team went down to the wire with the Oakland Raiders. Both featured – relatively – strong early season performances by the starting quarterbacks.
This season, though, the Bills will face a (known) formidable opponent before Week 7. This Sunday, the Buffalo Bills host the New England Patriots.
Keep in mind the Bills haven’t beaten the Patriots since the 31-0 beat down on the 2003 season opener.
The Bills might walk onto the field Sunday with the best team since that game. Sure Ryan Fitzpatrick, Fred Jackson and Steve Johnson might not be Drew Bledsoe, Travis Henry or Eric Moulds – but they are close. And the players on the ’11 Bills are doing something that no Bills team has done since the late 90s – protect the football.
That might be the key to the upcoming game against the Patriots. For the Bills, the fewer number of time that the Patriots top-ranked offensive attack – led by Tom Brady – can have the ball the better.
And the better the chances the team moves to 3-0.
