Appeals court rules in favor of Carl Lewis

Carl Lewis is back on the November ballot in New Jersey. A federal appeals court ruled in a 2-1 decision that Olympic gold medalist, Carl Lewis, should be able to run for office in the New Jersey state senate.

The ruling should be the final word on the issue of Lewis’ residency. It might also put into question the legality of the state’s requirement that state senators live in New Jersey for four years
before they’re elected.

Lewis says the effort to keep him from running was political as the person questioning his residency was a Republican and Lewis is a Democrat. It was Republican Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, Secretary of State, who deemed him ineligible.

Lewis currently has homes in both New Jersey and California.
