I don’t claim to know everything. In fact, I don’t claim to know much at all. I know about sports (sometimes) and I know about weather (most times).
But there is one thing I know (All times). It is never an advantageous move to criticize someone – anyone – about anything and include skin color in the same paragraph.
Exhibit A: Burlington County Republican Chairman Bill Layton confirmed reports Monday that Pat Delany stepped down from the Assembly this month after reports surfaced that his wife sent an offensive and racist letter to Lewis’ campaign.
Okay, well, how racist was it? It’s important not jump to conclusions and just trust one side. Perhaps Delaney kept the criticism and skin color in two separate paragraphs and this is the tale of one side trying to grill the other over something that meant nothing.
According to The Associated Press, Jennifer Delany’s email said, “Imagine having dark skin and name recognition and the nerve to think that equalled knowing something about politics.”
Swing and a miss. Not only is the criticism and skin-color-reference in the same sentence, but there is a spelling error, to boot!
Layton told reporters Pat Delany left office to shield his children from “a hurtful and embarrassing public spectacle involving their mother.”
Pat Delaney says he’s sorry.
Recall the original dispute surrounding Carl Lewis’ campaign was residency. Lewis and Republicans have been fighting over whether he meets the New Jersey state residency requirements when it was discovered Lewis had lived in Texas and California.
Well, when all else fails I guess a pointed letter never hurts.
Oh, wait.
