Montreal Impact forward Mignane Diouf was arrested Sunday at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, accused of shoplifting a $600 pair of headphones.
Airport spokesman, Patrick Hogan, told reporters that Diouf was apprehended for allegedly trying to steal headphones from a store in the airport’s mall.
No charges were filed, court date was scheduled and Diouf was released. He returned home to Montreal.
Diouf is a newcomer to the Western Hemispere. On May 6, Diouf, originally from Saly Senegal was given to Montreal “on loan” and made his debut for Montreal on May 14. He scored his first goal for the club on June 4 in a 2-0 win over FC Edmonton.
The team says it hired a lawyer to represent Diouf and made no comment on the matter.
The Impact are set to join the MLS in 2012 and were in town for a game against the Minnesota Stars. Diouf was arrested as the team prepared to return home.
