Max van Heeswiik refutes article, claims misunderstanding

Max van Heeswiik is crying foul. The Dutch cyclist – who was a teammate of Lance Armstrong – has been misquoted about his use of performance enhancing drugs.

More specifically, EPO. And he’s not happy.

NUSport, a Dutch magazine, quoted Max van Heeswijk as answering “yes” when asked during an interview if he had used the drug. The interview was in June and Van Heeswijk says there was a misunderstanding.

Van Heeswiik was referring to vitamins as supplements that he took in preparation for a race – not EPO.

The retired cyclist beroke down to tears during a television interview claiming he was one of the “cleanest ones.”

Van Heeswijk says he destroyed the reporter’s recording in anger.
