Former NHL player, Wade Belak, who retired in March after playing with five different NHL teams during his 15 year career, was found dead in his in Toronto.
Toronto police are investigating the cause of death, according to Canadian Press.
He played for the Colorado Avalanche, Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers and the Nashville Predators during his career. He played in 549 career NHL games with 1,263 penalty minutes and 33 points.
The Predators learned of Belak’s death from NHL security on Wednesday. Belak was planning on taking over sideline reporting duties for the team this season.
The team issued a statement expressing shock and sadness about Belak’s sudden death and offering full support to Belak’s wife and two children.
This is the third former NHL player to die in since May. Winnipeg’s Rick Rypien was found dead earlier this month, and former Rangers enforcer Derek Boogaard died in May.
