It’s been a rough week for Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Five team defected and now the league is forced to invite Northern Michigan to join the league.
But that is still two year out.
According to The Associated Press:
The WCHA announced Friday that leaders of the holdover schools “are supportive” of Northern Michigan’s entrance into the conference for the 2013-14 season. Officials from Alaska Anchorage, Bemidji State, Michigan Tech, Minnesota State at Mankato and St. Cloud State met Friday in St. Paul, Minn., to address their future.
Colorado College, Denver, Minnesota Duluth, Nebraska-Omaha and North Dakota said this week they will join the new National Collegiate Hockey Conference in two years. Minnesota and Wisconsin will also leave the WCHA then for the Big Ten’s new hockey league.
It will take until next week for the WCHA to finalize the approval for Northern Michigan.
