Well, the tarp is off the field. Bonus!
The rain passed and left in it’s wake more than just some drizzle. It left Washington D.C. is a dreary delirium. I tuned into WTOP about 20 minutes ago and traffic is at a standstill all over town and water is flooding low-lying areas. A flood warning is in effect for the area and the severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for another three hours.
So, we might not be out of the woods yet.
In the meantime, players have emerged from the dugouts and fans have started to file into the stands.
Tonights game should be interesting. The Nationals haven’t fared well against the Rockies in recent (or all) history. The Rockies have swept six series from the Nationals and the Nats are 59-85 overall against the Rockies – including losing three consecutive games.
Then again, they haven’t played since April 16th of last season. As noted in the media guide – it’s been 417 days.
On the bump tonight it’ll be Jason Hammel vs. John Lannan. Neither pitcher has a winning record or an ERA below 3.50.
So, fans may be in store for some offense!
It’s something the Nationals wouldn’t be surprised to see. After all, last night the Washington-Chicago game was a barnburner. It ended 10-9. Then again, in 2004, Washington beat Chicago 13-10.
But that was football.
