Utah, Pac-12 make it official at Media Day

For the former Pac-10, the addition of two teams means added competition and a new structure. For the two added teams it means making a name for themselves – on a national scale.

For Utah, it carries an extra meaning. An easier road to the National Championship. Head Coach Kyle Whittingham finally has his team on the inside of the BCS looking out.

“We’re ecstatic,” Whittingham said Tuesday at the Pac-12’s media day. “It’s something that’s been talked about in Salt Lake City for a lot of years, even back when it was the Pac-8, going that far back. So it’s something that’s very exciting for the university, for the community, and big challenges lie ahead.”

The first challenge he plans to overcome is winning the Pac-12 crown. And the media thinks it might not be a big hurdle. Utah was picked third in the South behind Southern California and Arizona State.

Recall, USC is banned from postseason play, including that league title game.
