A quick props to Tom Kekis of the AP for tracking down some great information about my favorite ball player growing up.
Roberto Alomar will enter the Baseball Hall of Fame next Sunday. And he deserves it. But I never knew how much he deserved it until I read what Kekis discovered.
Kekis wrote:
Alomar was not elected last year in his first year of eligibility, but the switch-hitting second baseman who hit 210 home runs and batted .300 was named on 90 percent of ballots cast this time, becoming just the 26th player to garner at least 90 percent in any election. He also was listed on 523 ballots, the third-highest total of all time.
Not bad for the third player elected to the Hall of Fame from Puerto Rico. Also, as a quick aside, he plans to give his speech i English and Spanish.
