National Basketball League of Canada opening doors to locked-out NBA players

Special Contributor // Jon Marshall

With news of New Jersey Nets guard Deron Williams possibly having a deal in place with the Beşiktaş Cola Turka pro team in Turkey, lower-level NBA players will have some options as well. The National Basketball League of Canada sent out a release welcoming players with open arms as a possible destination if the lockout situation gets worse.

The league is interested in attracting the “Tier 3 type” player. You have to love their realistic goal. The LeBron James and Dwight Howard’s of the world won’t be penny pinching. The minimum salary players though will be sweating if no games are being played come November.

Owners are hoping to make the league a second option for those unable to secure contracts from top overseas teams. One thing to note though, NBL particulars are not fully ironed out. They are looking to add clubs in cities such as Quebec City, Oshawa and Saint John.
