Blue Jays trade Rivera to Dodgers

As the All-Star weekend continues, the Toronto Blue Jays have decided to make some interesting moves. The Jays traded outfielder Juan Rivera to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for a player to be named or cash considerations.

It’s almost a throw-away deal for the Jays. Rivera appeared in 70 games for the Blue Jays and is hitting .243 with six home runs and 27 RBIs. Then he was designated for assignment on July 3.

The move means that both players the Blue Jays received from the Angles in exchange for Vernon Wells have been traded. The other player in teh deal, Mike Napoli, was dealt to the Texas Rangers.

In 11 major league seasons with the Yankees, Expos, Angels and Blue Jays, Rivera has a .277 average with 118 home runs and 446 RBIs.
