The Golden State Warriors have named Mark Jackson their new head coach.
The Warriors and Jackson agreed to a 3-year contract worth $6 million. The deal includes an option for a fourth season.
After playing 17 years as a point guard in the NBA Jackson has recently worked as a TV analyst for ABC and ESPN.
He has no coaching experience.
Jackson has interviewed for several jobs in the past and will finally have the opportunity to showcase his coaching skills at the NBA level.
Jackson replaces Keith Smart who was not retained after the 2010-2011 season.
Smart led the Warriors to a 36-46 record in his first season as head coach. He replaced Don Nelson in late September and had been an assistant under Nelson for four previous seasons.
