The Phoenix Suns are expected to buy out the contract of veteran guard Vince Carter.
According to Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic the Suns are expected to be active leading up to Thursday night’s draft. That includes buying out the contract of Carter. The team is not expected to trade Carter before Thursday night’s draft.
Carter signed a four-year, $61.8 million deal in 2007. He is entering the final year of the contract, which was scheduled to pay him $18.9 million next season.
The Suns are expected to buy Carter out for about $4 million. He will become an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any team.
Carter averaged 14.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game this past season. In 51 games after being traded to the Suns, the 34-year old averaged a career-low 13.5 points per game.
