In less than 10 full days the current NBA collective bargaining agreement will end.
And the NBA isn’t planning on looking like the NFL. NBA owners and players are scheduled to meet again, Tuesday.
In a session that Commissioner David Stern indicated would be critical in gauging whether a new CBA could be reached, both sides were confident a new CBA would be drafted but weren’t certain it will be completed in time to prevent a lockout.
Players like the current deal but the owners want a hard salary cap and shorter contract lengths – which would cut player costs by $750 million – for the next season.
Although contract guarantees are no longer a hang-up, major disagreements remain, according to The Associated Press.
