It keeps getting worse for futbol. The culmination of a match-fixing sting operation led to arrests in 10 different cities in Italy.
Former Lazio team captain, Giuseppe Signori, was one of 16 people arrested Wednesday for alleged involvement in match-fixing and betting. Some current players in Serie B and C, executives for lower-level clubs and betting operators were also taken into custody.
The police operation was based in Cremona and the investigation included clubs like Atalanta and Siena.
If the two clubs are involved, it could jeopardize the recent promotion back into Serie A.
