The Edmonton Oilers have acquired their former captain.
Original reports from Darren Dreger, had the Los Angeles Kings trading forward Ryan Smyth to the Edmonton Oilers for Gilbert Brule and a 4th round pick.
New details show that Ryan Smyth was traded to the Oilers for forward Colin Fraser and a seventh -round pick in the 2012 draft.
The Oilers traded Smyth back in 2006-2007 after more than a decade in Edmonton. The deal sent him to the New York Islanders for Robert Nilsson, Ryan O’Marra and a first round draft pick.
Smyth had 23 goals and 24 assists in 82 games last season in L.A. while Fraser had three goals and two assists in 67 games with the Oilers last season.
Smyth’s return to Edmonton had been rumored for days, but the deal hit several snags before the two sides came to an agreement.
