After nearly two decades of searching the Philadelphia Flyers finally have a top line goaltender.
The Flyers have signed goalie Ilya Bryzgalov to a 9-year $51 million contract.
The deal is slightly longer than expected but keeps Bryzgalov’s cap hit at a managable level of $5.67 million. The 31-year old Bryzgalov will be under contract until he is 40-years old.
Philadelphia acquired Bryzgalov’s rights from the Phoenix Coyotes earlier this month for forward Matt Clackson, a third-round draft choices, and a conditional draft pick.
Bryzgalov was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
