With the second selection and the 9th pick of the 2011 NBA draft the Charlotte Bobcats selected point guard Kemba Walker from the University of Connecticut.
He had an outstand junior season in which he won the 2011 Final Four Most Outstanding Player and Big East Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
“It’s a great pick for us,” Bobcats assistant coach Stephen Silas told NBA.com. “One of our weaknesses this past year was scoring, so to have someone who can score the ball the way he can and to bring all the intangibles like being a winner, big-shot taker and big-shot maker – it’s a great day for us.”
Walker led UConn to the 2011 National Championship averaging 23.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game.
The 6’1” 185 pound Walker is a tremendous athlete that should be a successful starter at the NBA level.
