The Oakland Athletics have fired Manager Bob Geren.
The move comes in the middle of a nine game losing streak for the A’s. Bob Melvin will take over the managing duties for the remainder of the season as interim manager. Melvin led the Arizona Diamondbacks to the NL West title in 1997.
Oakland sits in last place in the AL West, with a record of 27-36, eight games back from the leading Texas Rangers.
