Vikings’ Jared Allen supports drafting Ponder

Jared Allen doesn’t judge people until he sees them on the field. In an interview with KTAR he said he is excited to see what Ponder is capable of doing on the field.

He also noted that the NFC North isn’t going to be an easy ride.

“I don’t try to make judgments until I see them play,” Allen told Doug and Wolf of KTAR. “But that’s a lot of pressure to put on a rookie quarterback, especially in our division with the Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, and Detroit, they’re no slouches these days either.”

The three-time Pro Bowl player and Idaho State alum knows a thing or two about being drafted with any kind of expectation.

“Whether they believe this kid can do it that’s yet to be seen and we will have to see how the season plays out,” Allen said. “I try not to judge people until I see them on the field. I came in as a fourth round pick, people thought I was going to be a long snapper, and I was able to prove them wrong.”

Ponder should get his chance soon. Of course, this all depends on the NFL Lockout.
