The Twins Hall of Fame slugger is being remembered Thursday in Minnesota – today is Harmon Killebrew Day.
Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton made the declaration in remembrance of the player who hit 573 career home runs. He died, last week, at age 74 after fighting esophageal cancer.
Dayton said Killbrew should be “an inspiration to everyone.”
The Twins plan to hold a ceremony at Target Field. It is open to the public and will feature a handful of players. Before the event, some of Killebrew’s former teammates plan to meet at the old site of home plate of Metropolitan Stadium – now the Mall of America.
For a deeper look at Killebrew, The [Five] Daily’s Terry Horstman also wrote about Killebrew’s life.
