Aston Villa midfielder Robert Pires received an interesting phone call from New York Red Bulls’ Thierry Henry. Henry asked his former France and Arsenal teammate to join him in Major League Soccer.
“Thierry has phoned me,” Pires told the Birmingham Mail. “He called me up and said ‘come over and play with me’ but there are no real offers yet,”
The 37-year-old is playing under a short-term contract that runs out at the end of the Premier League season. In his eight months with the team, Pires has started only four games and has not discussed renewing his contract with the team.
“For the moment, there is nothing else because the Premier League is not yet finished for the season.” he told mirrorfootball.com. “I will wait until it is finished. I am relaxed about it. I still feel fit enough to play.”
Pires told the newspaper he wants to talk to Gerard Houllier before deciding.
