I realize that two headlines on the front page end with an ellipses – sorry. But they are both necessary.
Today, I happened upon Bleacher Report, a fan blog site, and realized that I NEVER (regardless of the monetary benefits) want this website to look like it did. Apparently The Hangover 2 comes out tomorrow. And apparently someone paid Bleacher Report a TON of dinero to promote it.
A. Ton.
Go ahead and click the picture for a full size view. It’s obnoxious.
I understand that this movie was good. I understand that a lot of people have been waiting for the sequel. I understand – as Bleacher Report – that someone is planning to pay a boatload of money to promote it.
But, really? You are that desperate for cash?
The next time it’s a good idea to run a full screen background image, a header a sub-nav header and a ad-block-right of the same thing – will be the first. That much advertising makes me want to SKIP this movie. It also makes me want to skip this site. And I know I’m not alone.
After looking at that abomination of a website, I realized that I need to make a promise to the readers of this site.
I will never sell out. I will never put ads on every open corner of the site. I will never make it feel like you aren’t on a legitimate news site.
Promise.
