Reports that Sean Miller is set to take the Maryland basketball head coaching position are blossoming.
An announcement is going to be made by Monday.
Comcast Sportsnet was the first to report the move. ESPN quickly followed.
Miller is reportedly scheduled to meet with Maryland Athletic Director Kevin Anderson in Las Vegas on Saturday. Miller’s decision expected sometime in the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, Arizona Athletic Director Greg Byrne reportedly spent the past 24 hours discussing Miller’s future at Arizona.
According to the Arizona Daily Star, Byrne is doing everything in his power to keep Miller.
Although, one source that spoke with Andy Katz of ESPN.com said:
“He’s looking at Maryland from a recruiting standpoint of how you can get the flood gates to open up there if you did it the right way and then compete for Final Fours yearly,” said the source with direct knowledge. “But he also has Arizona at a level now where there isn’t as much competition for players [out West], where the Pac-12 now has a major television commitment, where he could stay there for 20 years. So it comes down to what his family wants to do. That’s why he could talk to Maryland and not go.”
The buyout on Miller’s contract is roughly $500,000 according to AZcentral.com.
Apparently, Miller has had a tough time adjusting to the West. He spent most of his professional career on the East Coast and reportedly the transition has been tough on him and his family.
