The Philadelphia Phillies have signed veteran outfielder Scott Podsednik to a minor-league contract.
The 35-year old Podsednik hit .297 last season with 35 stolen bases with the Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Dodgers.
He signed a minor-league deal with the Toronto Blue Jays this offseason but a case of plantar fascitis derailed him this Spring. He began the season with the Blue Jays Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas, where he hit .254 in 85 plate appearances.
Podsednik requested his release on May 11 and decided to sign a deal with the Phillies a little over a week later. He will begin with the club’s Triple-A affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.
In 10 MLB seasons Podsednik has hit .279/.340/.381 with 301 stolen bases.
