N.C. State received a waiver from the NCAA Friday, allowing an American Idol finalist to throw out the first pitch.
The waiver was necessary because the NCAA doesn’t allow schools to publicize visits from high school players.
School spokeswoman, Annabelle Myers, told The Associated Press:
N.C. State received a waiver from the NCAA to allow country singer Scotty McCreery to appear publicly at the Wolfpack’s game Saturday night as part of his made-for-TV hometown visit.
The 17-year-old once pitched for Garner Magnet High School in a Raleigh suburb. As a sophomore on the junior varsity team, the 5-foot-10 right-hander was 6-1 with a 1.07 ERA.
The only caveat for N.C. State: The school agreed it wouldn’t recruit him or any member of his family.
