Arizona’s Lamont Jones transferring

Arizona point guard Lamont Jones plans to transfer – but he isn’t sure where or when.

He plans to be closer to his Harlem, NY home.

“I would like to thank my coaches, my teammates and all of the U of A fans for making my two years at Arizona very special,” Jones told reporters. “I want it to be known that I love this program, my coaches and teammates. I appreciate everyone for supporting me through this tough time.”

Jones wants to be closer to his family, and in particular his grandmother.

UA head coach Sean Miller added: “This spring MoMo expressed to me his desire to be closer to home while continuing his life as a student-athlete.”

The sophomore had an up-and-down first two seasons in Arizona. He averaged 9.7 points and 2.4 assists during his 38 games in Tucson.

The Wildcats already lost Pac-10 Player of the Year Derrick Williams to the NBA Draft. Miller is still positive his team will survive. He has two standout incoming freshman in Josiah Turner and Nick Johnson
