Lab denies hiding Lance Armstrong positive drug tests

The head of Switzerland’s anti-doping laboratory denied that it covered up any positive drug test from Lance Armstrong in 2001.

Martial Saugy told The Associated Press that the Lausanne lab did find suspicious levels of EPO in four urine samples it collected but that they weren’t sure if any belonged to Armstrong. He added that suspicious tests do not mean positive tests and and none were hidden, either.

He did tell reporters that he met with former US Postal sports director Johan Bruyneel and Lance Armstrong after he found the suspect tests to discuss details of the early EPO test method, according to Cycling News.

This is the first time Saugy has answered claims that he covered up the positive tests an accusation made by Tyler Hamilton in an interview on “60 Minutes.” Hamilton claims there was a major cover up on the part of the cycling governing community to hide his former teammate’s performance-enhancing drug use in 2001.
