An East Carolina tennis player is in trouble for her backhand. Only, she’s in trouble in the classroom.
Thursday, the NCAA reported that is placed East Carolina on a one-year probation for a self-reported violation involving a women’s tennis player who helped a few baseball players cheat. The school must also forfeit 25 games from last season but won’t suffer any recruitment or post season sanctions.
A women’s tennis player, working as a tutor, wrote papers for four baseball players. Two of whom provided misleading information during the schools investigation. East Carolina Chancellor, Steve Ballard, expressed embarrassment on the schools behalf.
Ballard added the players: “acted on their own volition.”
The forfeited games include 17 baseball games and eight women’s tennis matches in which the athletes participated.
