Boston Celtics center Shaquille O’Neal is expected to return to the lineup for Game 3 of the team’s second round series against the Miami Heat.
O’Neal has been out of the lineup since briefly returning on April 3 against the Detroit Pistons. Before re-injuring his calf, O’Neal had missed nearly two months with a right achilles injury. He will provide some much-needed depth for Boston at the center position.
“I am very confident he’ll play,” coach Doc Rivers said. “There’s no way you get him at 100 percent, that would be a miracle. But we can get him to a point where he can help us, and he may be at that point.”
If O’Neal is able to play on Saturday it will be just his second appearance since February 1.
O’Neal’s presence could provide a boost to the Celtics, who currently trail the Miami Heat two-games-to-none in their best-of-seven series.
