Minnesota Twins infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka will be out of the lineup for the foreseeable future after suffering a fractured fibula during Thursday afternoon’s game against the New York Yankees.
The injury occurred in the 7th inning when Nishioka was taken out on a slide at 2nd base by Yankees right fielder Nick Swisher who was trying to break up a double play.
Nishioka had to be helped off the field. Swisher slid well to the left of the bag as Nishioka tried to turn the double play.
The Twins will likely promote Luke Hughes to take Nishioka’s place on the roster.
The Twins signed Nishioka to a three-year, $9.25 million deal in December. He was 5-for-24 with 2 RBIs and 8 strikeouts in 6 games this season.
