Soccer… or not to Soccer?

Alright, after covering futbol for about a week or two now it has come to my attention that people are quite torn. Natalie Imbruglia would be proud.

About half of our fantastic readers have greeted us with: “Soccer? WTF, mate?!?” or somthign a little closer to, “NOOOOO!!!”

And I can’t say I’m surprised.

I’ve been anti-soccer for most of my grown life. In fact, until I was about 22 I loathed the thought of 90 minutes without cheerleaders or any semblance of a high-powered offense.

Truth be told, as an American, the thought of a 0-0 draw was about as interesting as watching paint dry.

But slowly I came around. About two years ago I realized I could handle soccer on an irregular basis.

Today, I don’t mind it. But I’m not sure if I “like” it either.

But enough about me. What about you?

The other side – roughly half of our wonderful readers – loves the addition of the MLS. They’re thrilled. There aren’t too many places that offer any MLS coverage outside of the major networks and I’ve ben told we are a nice change of pace.

Of those soccer fans, a handful want us to take it to the next step and cover “real” futbol. I’ve gotten a few requests to cover Euro-league.

With all respect: Not going to happen. While I like the addition on MLS coverage, the thought of Euro-league soccer is far beyond what I ever imagined.

But, I would like to get a better feel for our thoughts…

Soccer or No Soccer?
