On of the nastiest pitchers of the 90s, Former Braves pitcher John Smoltz, moved his career to the next stage. He debuted at the PGA Nationwide Tour Saturday at the South Georgia Classic on a sponsor exemption.
Smoltz struggled, shooting a 15-over 87 and missed the cut by 27 strokes. Golf, though isn’t something he’s trying to turn into a career
“I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes,” Smoltz told The Kansas City Star. “I’m not looking to take anybody’s spot who is aspiring to be a Tour professional. I have a lot of respect for everybody who does what they do on the Nationwide Tour.
Smoltz opened with an 84 after two long weather delays. He played 18 holes over the course of two days.
Baseball fans remember Smoltz mainly in an Atlanta Braves jerssey. He spent nearly his entire career with Atlanta, becoming the only pitcher in MLB history to post 200 wins and 150 saves.
