Boston Celtics center Shaquille O’Neal will return to the lineup Sunday evening as the Celtics take on the Detroit Pistons.
O’Neal has been out of the Celtics lineup for nearly two months with a right achilles injury. He would provide some much-needed depth for Boston at the center position as they head down the stretch of the regular season and into the playoffs.
The Celtics recently got Jermaine O’Neal back following surgery on his left knee. However they also lost Nenad Krstic to a right knee injury.
The Celtics were concerned that Krstic suffered torn ligaments in the knee. But an MRI revealed that he had a bone bruise and his status is now day-to-day.
Head coach Doc Rivers said O’Neal is only expected to play 5-10 minutes tonight as the Celtics ease him back into the lineup.
In 36 games this season, O’Neal is averaging 9.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game, both career lows.
