Former MLB outfielder Lenny Dykstra was arrested on Thursday in California on charges of bankruptcy fraud.
Dykstra, a former outfielder for the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets, has been charged with one count of embezzlement dating back to a bankruptcy case he filed on July 7, 2009.
At the time Dykstra claimed he owed more than $31 million to the government and only had $50,000 in assets. Since then, Dykstra has allegedly sold and destroyed many of his belongings.
It is estimated that Dykstra stole and destroyed more than $400,000 worth of property in the estate, according to the criminal complaint.
Dykstra retired after the 1996 season and had a “successful” second career picking stocks.
