Carlos Delgado ‘gado’ go home – he is retiring from baseball.
He is currently recovering from a hip injury and announced he won’t try and return to baseball after a two-year hiatus. He made the announcement from Puetro Rico. The 38-year-old first baseman didn’t seem to be bothered – he was caught laughing as friends presented him with a rocking chair as a retirement gift.
Delgado played for the Toronto Blue Jays, Florida Marlins and New York Mets during his 17 year career. He was a two-time All-Star and three-time Silver Slugger, originally signed back in 1988 by the Blue Jays as a catcher. He made his major league debut in 1993 in a 7-2 loss to the Orioles. He walked.
Today, he walks away from the game.
He leaves the game with 473 homeruns, 2,038 hits and 1109 walks with a .280 batting average.
Delgado played for the Blue Jays from 1993-2004, went to the Florida Marlins for a season and finished out his career with the Mets from 2006-09.
