San Diego Padres catcher Gregg Zaun is set to retire from Major League Baseball.
SportsNet Ontario was the first to report the news.
Zaun is expected to officially announce his retirement Monday.
The 39-year-old catcher played 1,232 games in his Major League career, posting a career batting average of .252, with 88 home runs and 446 RBI.
Zaun missed most of last season following June shoulder surgery. He attempted to make a comeback this Spring but ultimately decided that with his age and shoulder, he was no longer able to perform at the major league level.
Nick Hundley will now become the starting catcher for the Padres.
