The Green Bay Packers have released linebacker AJ Hawk.
In a “money move” the Packers save roughly $10.6 million in the move. Hawk was one of three players the Super Bowl champions let go along with tight end Donald Lee and safety Derrick Martin.
Lee was set to earn $2.2 million and Martin, $750,000, in 2011.
Hawk was the fifth overall pick of the 2006 draft. He played in 80 games and started 77.
General manager Ted Thompson told the Associated Press Wednesday the Packers are hopeful Hawk return to the team.
