MLB Roster moves – Mariners & Orioles

Mariners

The Seattle Mariners reassigned catcher Josh Bard and utility player Chris Gimenez to the minors. Bard and Gimenez were non-roster invitees – meaning they weren’t on the 40-man roster.

The team is cutting down to the 25 player roster necessary for Opening Day.

Meanwhile, southpaw Luke French was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma after he allowed three runs on nine hits in five innings in his spring training start Sunday.

The Mariners start 2011 with Miguel Olivo and Adam Moore battling for the catcher position.

Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles cut ties with Ryan Drese, Rick VandenHurk and Clay Rapada and infielder Nick Green. They also released outfielder Randy Winn, lefty Mark Hendrickson and righty David Riske.

Hendrickson is the most notable of the three. He is 57-74 with a 5.02 ERA for his career.

Hendrickson was invited to pitch for Baltimore’s Triple-A club, but manager Buck Showalter told the Associated Press Hendrickson will weigh his options before making a decision.
