The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced right-hander Lance Cormier has won the final spot In the Dodgers bullpen and will make the Opening Day roster.
The 30-year-old right-hander signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers back in February.
He logged 62 innings for the Rays last year in his second campaign in Tampa Bay. He posted a 3.92 ERA despite walking more batters (34) than he struck out (30).
The only spot that was up in the air for the Dodgers was the final bullpen spot, between lefty Scott Elbert and Cormier, a non-roster invitee.
Cormier was asked to accept a Minor League assignment, but he said he told the club he would not.
Cormier had an out in his contract starting Sunday, but he said he was not yet a free agent and that “the ball is in their court.”
Ultimately the Dodgers chose to keep him.
