Knicks sign Jared Jeffries

The New York Knicks have signed forward Jared Jeffries for the remainder of the season.

Jeffries agreed to a buyout with the Houston Rockets over the weekend after the team could not trade him before last week’s deadline.

This will be Jeffries second stint with the Knickerbockers. New York traded Jeffries to the Houston Rockets midway through the 2009-10 season, after starting 37 games. Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni indicated that Jeffries could resume his starting duties once he re-adjusts to the team’s system.

“We just think that he’ll pick back up right where he left off,” D’Antoni told the Times. “He knows the system, and to put him in with the group will take two seconds.”

The 6’11” forward adds some much needed size to the Knicks lineup after they traded away center Timofey Mozgov and forward Danilo Gallinari in the Carmelo Anthony deal.

In 18 games this season Jeffries is averaging just 1.5 points and 1.9 rebounds in under 8 minutes per game. He has averaged 5.2 points and 4.3 rebounds in 22.8 minutes per night throughout his nine year career.
