Egypt wins freedom, then Squash World Cup

Egypt defeated defending champion England 2-0 Saturday in the squash World Cup.

It was only a month after Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepped down as the leader of Egypt.

Egyptian Ramy Ashour called it a “proud moment” for Egypt, dedicating the title to a country at the center of political uprisings sweeping the Arab world.

Ashour, ranked No. 2, beat No. 4 James Willstrop 11-8, 11-7, 11-7 in the opening match of the best-of-three final. An emotional Ashour called it “the moment that we all have been waiting for.”

“It’s moments like this that make you feel proud to be Egyptian. We are very, very proud of what we have achieved,” he told The Times of India.
