Houston Astros catcher Jason Castro’s surgery to repair his right ACL may cost him 2011.
Castro – who earned a regular spot int he lineup as a rookie – was injured Wednesday while trying to avoid a tag by Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera.
It was originally diagnosed as a sprain, but after an MRI revealed a tear, Castro went under the knife Friday.
It was his second game of spring training in his first full season as a starter. He started 67 games last season after playing 57 games in the minor leagues where he batted .265.
He was originally drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 43rd round of the 2005.
