The Sacramento Kings have suspended rookie DeMarcus Cousins after he was involved in an altercation with teammate Donte Greene according to a source close to the team. Cousins will not make the trip with the Kings to Phoenix.
Cousins and Greene got into a heated exchange after the Kings 99-97 loss to Oklahoma City on Saturday night. One source said Cousins and Green argued in the locker room, with Cousins telling everyone he wanted respect, regardless of his rookie status. The 4th overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft was upset after Greene passed the ball to guard Tyreke Evans who settled for a long, off balance 3-point attempt at the buzzer.
According to the Sacramento Bee’s Kings blog, “Westphal said the final play wasn’t drawn up specifically for Evans and that Donte Greene had options inbounding the ball. Evans became the best option because he was open and the Thunder took away DeMarcus Cousins in the post.”
It’s the latest incident in what has been a rocky rookie season for Cousins, who has already been fined by the team for a verbal confrontation with a training staff member and also was tossed out of a practice after talking back to Westphal. However this is the first time he will be reprimanded by missing game time due to his behavior.
Cousins is averaging 13.9 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
