The Cleveland Indians have signed SS Orlando Cabrera to a 1-year deal. The signing was first reported by Sports Illustrated’s Jon Heyman.
Cabrera, 36, hit .263 with 42 RBI and 64 runs scored for the National League Central Division champion Reds last season. He’s a career .274 hitter over 14 major league seasons. He has won two Gold Gloves.
Cabrera is likely to play second base or shortstop for the Indians this season. Cleveland was set to enter spring training unsettled and second and third bases.
