The Philadelphia Eagles have signed former Canadian Football League DE Phillip Hunt to a 3-year contract.
Hunt (6-1, 248), worked out for several teams including the Minnesota Vikings, Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns, and New England Patriots before signing with the Eagles. The 25-year old University of Houston product played in the CFL last season and led the league with 16 sacks as a member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
In his last two college seasons, Hunt had 25 sacks, and he was named Conference USA Player of the Year in 2008. He went unselected during the 2009 draft.
The window to sign CFL players expires on Feb. 15. The CFL free agency period starts the next day. Hunt’s option on his contract would have picked up on Feb. 15.
