Ron Rivera hired former NFL running back and Wisconsin assistant John Settle as running backs coach for the Carolina Panthers.
Settle has big shoes to fill. He replaces Jim Skipper.
Skipper was responsible for all of the great 1,000-yard rushers during the past nine seasons. In fact, In 2009, Skipper turned a corner and avoided the back-by-committee approach that characterized his early tenure with the Panthers, and the result was the first set of teammates in NFL history to each rush for more than 1,100 yards in the same season.
Settle steps in hoping to keep the momentum going. This past season at the University of Wisconsin – his fifth season with the Badgers – Settle coached a rushing attack that produced a trio of 800-yard rushers and ranked in the top 15 in the nation for the third consecutive season.
