QB Andrew Luck returning to Stanford

Sorry Carolina Panther fans…

The consensus number one pick in the 2011 NFL Draft has decided to return to school for his senior year.

Stanford Quarterback Andrew Luck announced Thursday afternoon that he will return to college. He cited the fact that he greatly enjoys his relationships with his teammates and the overall college experience.

“I am committed to earning my degree in architectural design from Stanford University and am on track to accomplish this at the completion of the spring quarter of 2012,” Luck said in a statement.

Luck’s decision to pass up millions in guaranteed money from the Carolina Panthers is a puzzling one. With a new collective bargaining agreement set to be negotiated between the NFLPA and the Owner’s association, a new rookie pay scale will almost certainly be in place by the time the quarterback is eligible for the 2012 NFL draft. Additionally, with head coach John Harbaugh’s status in question, it makes Luck’s decision even more mind boggling.

Luck still has nine days to change his mind.

For his sake, let’s just hope he stays healthy next year.
